Position: Federal Probation Officer

Role Overview:
The Federal Probation Officer is responsible for the supervision and management of individuals who have been placed on probation or released on parole by federal courts. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of criminal justice principles, as well as the ability to assess, monitor, and provide guidance to individuals under supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough assessments of offenders' criminal history, personal characteristics, and potential risks to determine appropriate supervision plans.
2. Develop and implement individualized supervision plans, which may include counseling, referrals to community resources, and monitoring compliance with conditions of probation or parole.
3. Conduct regular in-person meetings with offenders to address progress, concerns, and any violations of probation or parole conditions.
4. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, legal professionals, and community organizations to gather information relevant to the supervision process.
5. Prepare detailed reports on offender progress, compliance, and any violations to present to the court.
6. Monitor offenders' compliance with court-ordered treatment programs, drug testing, and other conditions of supervision.
7. Conduct investigations and present findings to the court regarding potential probation or parole violations.
8. Assist in the implementation and utilization of electronic monitoring systems to ensure compliance and enhance public safety.
9. Provide support and referrals to help offenders reintegrate into society, including assistance with employment, housing, and educational opportunities.
10. Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on the latest criminal justice policies, procedures, and best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to probation and parole.
3. Strong understanding of criminal justice principles, including risk assessment, case planning, and evidence-based practices.
4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and professionals.
5. Exceptional decision-making and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to handle challenging and sensitive situations.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with utmost professionalism.
7. Proficient computer skills, including experience with case management software and databases.
8. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
9. Valid driver's license and the ability to travel locally when required.
10. Physical ability to conduct field visits, which may involve walking, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
